Black Hills Midwifery offers well-woman care, prenatal care, home birth (including water birth if desired), and HBAC (home birth after cesarean) services for healthy women with low-risk pregnancies. Our philosophy is that birth is a normal process and should be viewed as such, and that women have choices about birth and should be supported in making decisions about their goals for birth. Mutual trust and respect, evidence-based care, and relationship building are vital components to a satisfying birth experience and best outcomes. As a Certified Nurse-Midwife, it is my goal to build trusting relationships and to provide individualized care for women and empower them in the decision making process.
Prior to becoming a certified nurse-midwife, I birthed my own 12 children and stayed home to rear and home school them. Since that time, my birth work experiences have included several years as a birth doula, labor and delivery RN in a high-risk unit, and home birth midwife assistant. I have also worked as a nurse in pediatrics, the NICU, and the emergency department.
I received my MSN degree from Frontier Nursing University and am certified by the national board of midwifery (AMCB). My assistants and l maintain current NRP (newborn resuscitation) certification and bring all of the proper resucitation equipment to home births.
We cover a service area within a 2 hour radius of Rapid City, SD and limit our client load to 3-4 births a month. Clients love the convenience of having visits in their own homes, and we love the intimacy of getting to know each family in their own environment.
